Niger, a landlocked nation, has turned to Nigerian ports for its international trade needs following a diplomatic dispute with Benin Republic that led to the closure of key border routes. A delegation from the Nigerien Customs visited the Nigeria Customs Service headquarters in Abuja to discuss trade issues and seek Nigeria's support. The Comptroller of Nigerien Customs, Abdoulaye Vincent, called for stronger collaboration between the two countries' customs services to facilitate legitimate trade and generate revenue. Vincent noted that security concerns along the Burkina Faso and Togo routes have prompted Niger to seek alternative trade corridors.
