As millions of children in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) return to school, the International Rescue Committee (IRC) warns that classroom settings could complicate Ebola containment efforts. The outbreak, now in its fourth month, has recorded over 5,945 cases and more than 2,862 deaths, including 743 cases and 330 deaths among children as of early August. The IRC is intensifying prevention measures in 30 schools in Ituri province, training teachers on Ebola prevention and child protection, and implementing age-appropriate awareness activities. The organization emphasizes the need to strengthen trust and prevention efforts to protect students and reduce transmission risk.
