The 24th African Traditional Medicine Day was commemorated on 31 August, with leaders, researchers, and traditional health practitioners discussing how traditional medicine can contribute to universal health coverage in Africa. The theme for this year is 'Reflection on research and development efforts of traditional medicine towards achieving universal health coverage in the African Region.' The WHO Global Traditional Medicine Centre and the WHO Regional Office for Africa convened a conversation on evidence, innovation, and community trust in traditional medicine. The day marks a resolution adopted by the WHO Regional Committee for Africa in 2000 in Ouagadougou, recognizing the role of traditional medicine in providing accessible and culturally grounded care.
