Justice Monica Dongban-Mensem, President of the Court of Appeal, has called for tighter oversight on the use of recovered stolen assets. Speaking at the 43rd Cambridge International Symposium on Economic Crime, she emphasized that the administration of recovered assets must adhere to principles of transparency, integrity, and public accountability. She argued that recovering stolen assets goes beyond confiscating illegitimately acquired funds or property, as it is also an act of restoring justice. She noted that corruption has direct human costs, such as unbuilt schools and unequipped hospitals, behind every stolen public resource.
