The Federal Government of Nigeria has called for increased investment in Artificial Intelligence to boost the nation's digital economy and data sovereignty. Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, made the call at the GITEX Nigeria 2026 Government Leadership and AI Summit in Abuja, themed 'Beyond Connectivity: The Bridge to Sovereign AI and Innovation.' He emphasized that Nigeria should move from being a technology consumer to a builder and exporter of digital solutions. Akume noted that the government's digital transformation agenda is being implemented through reforms to establish a competitive digital economy.
