The Supreme Council for Shari’ah in Nigeria (SCSN) is expressing concern about the ongoing detention of former Kaduna State Governor, Malam Nasir El-Rufai. He is facing serious charges, including abuse of office and fraud, related to his time in office. Additionally, he has charges for allegedly recording phone calls without permission. The SCSN believes that everyone, including El-Rufai, has the right to a fair trial and should be considered innocent until proven guilty. They stress the importance of following the law and ensuring that all citizens are treated fairly, regardless of their status or political connections. The Council warns that actions that seem politically motivated or unfair could harm public trust in government institutions. They call for authorities to follow legal procedures carefully and to avoid any actions that could be seen as targeting El-Rufai for political reasons. They emphasize that justice should be fair and transparent to maintain national unity and stability.
