The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has introduced a new platform called the Load & Outage Analytics platform. This tool is meant to improve how the company monitors and manages its electricity transmission network. During a presentation, TCN's Managing Director, Sule Abdulaziz, highlighted that while the system isn't fully operational yet, it has already helped the company see more clearly how the network is functioning. He pointed out that TCN faces issues with technical and financial losses, so understanding and managing electricity loads better is crucial. This could lead to fewer power outages, improved efficiency, and reduced costs from long interruptions. Godwin Aguiyi, the General Manager of Operations, explained that TCN's current way of reporting reliability is inefficient. They have data scattered across different spreadsheets, and gathering this information takes a long time, which can slow down decision-making. The new platform, developed by TCN's own team, includes 13 modules that streamline operations. It allows for detailed analysis of electricity loads and can quickly generate reports that used to take days to prepare. This should help TCN make better management decisions and improve the reliability of Nigeria's electricity transmission system.
