The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) at Tincan Island Port has handed over 204 firearms and parts to the National Centre for the Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons (NCCSALW). This follows the seizure of firearm components that were put together to make 399 pump-action rifles. During a ceremony in Lagos, the head of Customs, Bashir Adewale, explained that this operation was based on reliable information and ongoing efforts to stop illegal firearms from entering Nigeria. He noted that the customs officers are dedicated to preventing the importation of dangerous weapons. The firearms were discovered in a shipping container that arrived from Turkey. Customs officials examined the container and found the parts hidden among other goods, like furniture and appliances. There were also issues with the shipping documents, which are under investigation. Adewale emphasized that the customs team worked with experts to assemble the firearms from the parts found. The customs officials are committed to keeping the ports secure and sending a strong message that they will not allow illegal items to enter the country.
