The African Women Lawyers Association (AWLA) held its 10th annual meeting in Port Harcourt, Nigeria, focusing on empowering women and breaking down barriers that limit their growth. The theme for the event was "Read Women Beyond Limitations." During the meeting, Ngozi Enyosiobi-Abafor, the chairperson of the planning committee, encouraged women to reject societal expectations that hold them back. She stressed that a woman’s value should not be based on her gender and highlighted that women should be recognized for their ability to overcome challenges and contribute to society. Key speakers, including Ginika Tor and Hon. Justice S.T. Bello, emphasized the importance of women taking charge of their own success rather than waiting for permission from society. They pointed out that true success comes from defining oneself and building resilience to overcome obstacles. The speakers also criticized the tendency for women to undermine each other and advocated for cooperation, mentorship, and equal opportunities for girls in education and careers. The conference ended with a strong message: women should build their confidence, remove barriers, and recognize their strength to lead in all areas of life.
