The federal government has called for increased investment in Artificial Intelligence (AI) to drive Nigeria's digital economy and data sovereignty. Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, made the call at the GITEX Nigeria 2026 Government Leadership and AI Summit in Abuja. He stated that Nigeria must move from being a consumer of technology to becoming a builder, producer, and exporter of digital solutions and AI. Akume, represented by Permanent Secretary Mrs. Bekearedebo Warrens, noted that the government's digital transformation agenda is being implemented through reforms to establish a competitive digital economy.
