The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has rescued over 180 children allegedly trafficked from five states, uncovering a network of suspected criminal groups posing as civil society and humanitarian organizations. The agency also arrested a nurse at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Onitsha, Anambra State, for allegedly possessing one of the trafficked children. According to NAPTIP spokesman Vincent Adekoye, the operation recovered three children from a private building in Onitsha and another from the nurse's care. The Director General of NAPTIP, Binta Bello, has challenged the network.
