Meta, the parent company of WhatsApp, will begin charging businesses N14 for every business message sent through WhatsApp starting October 1, 2026. This applies to Nigerian numbers and affects businesses such as banks, fintech companies, telecommunications firms, retailers, and e-commerce platforms that use WhatsApp for customer support, transaction alerts, order confirmations, and marketing. Ordinary users will continue to use WhatsApp for free. Meta previously generated 98 percent of its revenue from selling digital ads.
