The United States Embassy in Abuja has clarified that its recent overhaul of routine visa services in Nigeria does not affect all visa processing in the Federal Capital. Applications from foreign media representatives, diplomats, and other official travellers will still be processed under separate arrangements. The new system, effective August 1, 2026, moved routine visa processing away from Abuja as part of a broader U.S. effort to strengthen security screening and improve efficiency. The U.S. Mission in Nigeria emphasized that the Abuja Embassy remains operational and that the realignment does not amount to closure.
