Nigeria's main opposition political parties met at a summit in Abuja yesterday, proposing to re-enact the 2015 alliance experience to defeat President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election. The meeting, summoned by civil society groups under the aegis of G100, saw six political parties pledge to cooperate: the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), the Tanimu Turaki-led Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Allied Peoples Democratic (APM), and Social Democratic Party (SDP). They said the purpose of the meeting was to set the stage for further discussions on forming a coalition, arguing that division among opposition parties would hand victory to the APC.
