The new ECOWAS Commission President, General Birame Diop, stated that the regional bloc must rebuild unity and urgently re-engage with Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger. Speaking at his formal handover ceremony in Abuja, Diop emphasized that political differences should not permanently sever relations, citing geography, security, and economic interdependence. He succeeded Dr. Omar Alieu Touray.
