The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has denied allegations by the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) that its officials altered the party's candidate list for the 2027 general election. INEC stated it lacks the authority to nominate or substitute candidates, as that responsibility lies with political parties under the Electoral Act 2026. The commission announced an internal audit to investigate how disputed entries appeared on its system. Adedayo Oketola, Chief Press Secretary to the INEC Chairman, clarified that candidate nomination is exclusively a party function.
