The FCT Emergency Management Department (FEMD) has called on owners and managers of markets, malls, and commercial facilities to prioritize fire prevention by providing adequate fire extinguishers and functional firefighting equipment. This follows a fire at the building materials market at Eda Plaza in Jabi, Abuja, which destroyed several shops and goods worth millions of naira. The fire started at about 3:00 a.m. and was brought under control by firefighters from multiple agencies at about 10:14 a.m. No lives were lost, and the cause of the fire has not been officially established.
