Seiso Joel Mohai, who is the Deputy Minister of Planning in South Africa, has been announced as a speaker for African Mining Week (AMW) 2026. This important event for the mining industry will take place from October 14-16 in Cape Town. As Deputy Minister, Mohai helps oversee how well the government is doing its job and making sure national development goals are met. His participation is significant because South Africa is working on reforms to make its mining sector more competitive. At AMW, Mohai will talk with industry leaders about how to improve mining policies, attract investments, and boost the mining sector's role in economic growth and job creation. South Africa aims to increase mining's share of the economy from 5.8% to 12% of GDP by 2030. In 2025, the mining sector contributed R439.2 billion to the economy, and there are plans to attract R2 trillion in private investments to develop critical minerals and explore untapped resources like iron ore. The Junior Miners Exploration Fund has already supported 14 projects with R600 million. The government is also making reforms to improve the investment climate, including moving to an online mining system to give investors better access to data and mining rights. They plan to increase rail freight volumes to support exports of various minerals. During AMW 2026, Mohai will participate in discussions and networking sessions to share updates on these mining reforms and the government's vision for the future of the sector.
