Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia, has praised the help from the Federal Government and the United States in tackling ongoing violence in Benue and nearby areas. He emphasized the need for states in the North-Central region to work together to prevent violence rather than just reacting to it after it happens. Alia pointed out that understanding the root causes of insecurity is crucial for achieving peace. He believes that the region has great economic potential but cannot thrive without security. He mentioned that the Federal Government is increasing military presence in areas that have faced repeated attacks, including establishing a new military division to help protect communities. Additionally, he discussed the ongoing debate about whether the violence against certain groups in northern Nigeria should be labeled as genocide, noting that while many agree the scale of killings is serious, opinions vary on whether it specifically targets Christians.
