The council emphasized that El-Rufai, like everyone else in Nigeria, has rights and should be considered innocent until proven guilty in a court. They reminded the authorities that Nigeria is a country that values democracy and the rule of law, meaning everyone should be treated fairly, no matter their political background. While the council does not support any illegal actions by El-Rufai, they believe that the process of seeking justice should also be fair. They warned that if people see actions as politically motivated or unfair, it could damage trust in the government and weaken democracy. El-Rufai is facing serious charges, including abuse of office and fraud, related to his time as governor. The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) and the Department of State Services (DSS) are pursuing these charges against him.
