Iran has criticized the European Union (EU) for supporting U.S. economic pressure against it. Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei stated that the EU is not acting independently but is following U.S. orders, which goes against its claim of having "strategic autonomy." This response came after the EU welcomed measures aimed at encouraging Iran to stop activities that are seen as destabilizing and to engage in peace talks. The EU also supported a U.S.-led initiative called "Operation Economic Outcast," which aims to increase economic pressure on Iran. Despite the tensions, the EU emphasized the importance of continuing diplomacy with Iran to promote stability in the region and ensure safe navigation through the Strait of Hormuz. They expressed readiness to take further actions alongside the U.S. while still encouraging dialogue to ease the situation. Recently, U.S. President Donald Trump announced a significant increase in economic sanctions against Iran, warning that countries supporting Iran could face serious economic consequences.
