Although there have been no confirmed cases of Ebola in Rwanda, the country is considered at risk because it is close to areas in the Democratic Republic of the Congo where the virus is present, and people often move between these regions. The World Health Organization (WHO) is working with Rwandan authorities to improve information sharing and support local health facilities. They are also actively engaging with communities in 11 districts that are considered high-risk for Ebola. So far, over 20,000 health workers and more than 10,000 community members have been educated about how Ebola spreads, its symptoms, how to prevent it, and what to do if they suspect a case. In July, a UN official allocated $2 million to help Rwanda prepare for Ebola, as part of a larger effort that could total up to $60 million for the Ebola response.
