Eritrean citizens living in Saudi Arabia celebrated the 65th anniversary of Eritrea's fight for independence on August 27. The events took place in cities like Riyadh, Jeddah, and Al-Namas. In Riyadh, the chairman of the local Eritrean community, Mr. Tesfay Tekle, spoke about the importance of remembering the struggle for independence, which lasted 30 years and involved many sacrifices. He emphasized that it is the duty of future generations to protect and develop the freedom that was achieved. Ms. Weini Gerezgihier, a representative from the Eritrean Embassy, highlighted that the armed struggle began in 1961 at Mount Adal, marking a significant moment in the Eritrean people's quest for independence. She congratulated the Eritrean people and their defense forces for their efforts. In Jeddah, Consul General Mr. Abdurahman Osman discussed the importance of the anniversary and encouraged the community to support the National Martyrs Trust Fund, which helps the families of those who died in the struggle. The celebrations also included cultural performances that showcased the historical significance of the day.
