The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has asked Timipre Sylva, a former governor of Bayelsa State, to come in for questioning about a serious fraud case. This request comes after Sylva accused the EFCC of acting more like a political party than an independent agency. In his resignation from the All Progressives Congress (APC), he expressed disappointment in the party and the current administration, claiming they have strayed from their original values. In November 2025, the EFCC had declared Sylva wanted due to an investigation into a fraud case involving nearly $14.9 million. They allege that he played a major role in this scheme and contributed a significant amount of money through a company he is associated with. The EFCC is urging him to cooperate and answer their questions regarding these allegations.
