The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) recently held a ceremony to welcome new leaders and say goodbye to those leaving their positions. General Birame Diop from Senegal has officially taken over as the new President of the ECOWAS Commission, replacing Dr. Omar Alieu Touray from The Gambia, who served for four years. During the event, which took place at the new headquarters in Abuja, several new leaders were introduced, including the new Vice President, Anthony Ogunjimi from Nigeria. Other new commissioners were appointed from various West African countries, each responsible for different areas like political affairs, economic matters, and health. In his farewell speech, Dr. Touray thanked everyone for their support and highlighted the achievements of his leadership. General Diop, in his first speech as President, emphasized the importance of unity and cooperation among the member countries to strengthen the organization and address regional challenges. He called for everyone to work together for peace and prosperity in West Africa.
