The Sokoto State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has denied that its former chairman, Alhaji Aliyu Bello Goronyo, recently resigned. They stated that Goronyo actually left the party nine months ago after a court ruling that changed the party's leadership. The current PDP chairman, Hon. Hayatu Tafida Aminu, explained that Goronyo's resignation letter, dated August 30, 2026, is not relevant because new leaders have already been elected since his departure. Just a day after announcing his resignation, Goronyo was appointed as the Campaign Director for another political party, the African Democratic Congress (ADC). Tafida emphasized that the PDP is still active and preparing for the upcoming 2027 elections, expressing confidence in the party's future success. He also criticized the ruling party in Sokoto, the All Progressives Congress (APC), for not effectively using government funds to benefit the people. Tafida urged the APC to focus on policies that truly improve the lives of Sokoto residents instead of just superficial projects.
