The Nigerian Defence Headquarters has stated that the planned withdrawal of about 200 US military personnel from Nigeria will not harm the strong security relationship between Nigeria and the United States. These US troops were in Nigeria to assist with intelligence, training, and logistics in the fight against terrorism and other security issues. Major General Samaila Uba explained that the withdrawal should not be seen as a sign that the partnership is ending. He emphasized that Nigeria is mainly responsible for its own security, and the cooperation with the US is meant to strengthen Nigeria's military capabilities. Key areas of collaboration, such as sharing intelligence and training, will continue. Uba also mentioned that the US personnel's withdrawal is part of a normal adjustment in their operations, not a breakdown of the partnership. He assured that both countries are still working together to tackle shared security threats. Additionally, Uba reported that the Nigerian military has been active, conducting over 7,000 operations in recent months, resulting in the neutralization of nearly 1,500 terrorists and rescuing many kidnapped victims. The police also reported significant successes in their operations during the same period.
