The Zamfara State Government in Nigeria has collected over 23 million Naira from private schools after checking if they were following the rules set by the government. This was part of an effort by the Ministry of Education to ensure that private schools meet safety and quality standards. A committee reviewed 508 private schools and found that only 123 of the 242 schools they assessed were doing well. The committee faced challenges because there are no specific laws to regulate private schools properly, making it hard to enforce rules. They also discovered some unapproved learning centers that could lead to problems like students dropping out of school. The committee helped school owners learn how to issue tax invoices and use electronic payments to avoid losing money. Additionally, they created a database of private schools to help monitor them in the future and raised awareness about important standards for education. The Commissioner for Education, Malam Abdulmalik Garba Gajam, praised the committee's work and promised to consider their recommendations to improve education in the state.
