The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Nigeria is planning to improve its safety measures after 16 of its members were kidnapped in Kogi State on August 26 while traveling to Abuja. Thankfully, they have been rescued and are doing well, ready to return to their assignments. Caroline Embu, the NYSC's Director of Information and Public Relations, praised the teamwork of various security agencies, including the military and police, in the successful rescue. She also highlighted the support from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, whose concern helped motivate the security response. The NYSC thanked the families of the kidnapped members for their patience and appreciated the media for responsibly reporting on the situation while the members were in danger. Now that the Corps Members are safe, the NYSC is focused on helping them recover from this traumatic experience. The organization emphasized that they have learned important lessons from this incident and will review their safety protocols to prevent similar events in the future. They remain committed to ensuring the safety and welfare of all Corps Members.
