Vanguard Media Limited recently held a health program for its employees to check for serious health issues like high cholesterol, diabetes, hypertension, and prostate diseases. Over 180 staff members participated in this free medical outreach, especially targeting those aged 40 and older. The initiative, themed “Be Forty and Fortified in Health,” aimed to raise awareness about the importance of regular health checks and healthy lifestyles. The health screenings included tests for blood pressure, blood sugar, and cholesterol levels, along with educational sessions on maintaining good health. A health expert, Mr. Patrick Oduone, emphasized the importance of knowing one’s health status, particularly cholesterol levels, which many people often overlook. He encouraged staff to make regular health checks a routine part of their lives. The program also aimed to extend health support to vendors and newspaper agents who often work long hours and may ignore health symptoms. Plans are in place to provide them with access to basic health checks. To promote physical activity, Vanguard is considering setting up a fitness center for employees to exercise at work. Dr. Mosunmola Adebayo, a medical professional, highlighted the need for men, especially those over 40, to prioritize their health through regular exercise, healthy eating, and routine medical check-ups. Overall, the outreach was seen as a crucial step in helping employees understand their health better and manage stress-related health risks, especially in the current economic climate.
