Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State has told newly elected local government chairmen that they must ensure the All Progressives Congress (APC) wins in their areas during the 2027 elections, or they will lose their jobs. He emphasized that this is not a threat to other political parties but a commitment to support the APC. During the swearing-in ceremony for 13 chairmen and their deputies, Nwifuru highlighted that the APC won all the local council positions in the recent elections. He urged the chairmen to mobilize support for the APC as campaigns for the National Assembly elections begin, insisting that they should work to ensure the party wins every position. Nwifuru warned that any chairperson who fails to secure victory in their local government area will be removed from their position. He also encouraged the chairmen to engage with their political opponents and reconcile with them, rather than viewing them as enemies. Additionally, the governor advised deputy chairmen to maintain good relationships with their principals and avoid gossip that could create conflicts. He reminded them that their performance in office is crucial for their future political careers. Lastly, Nwifuru expressed a desire for more women and young people to be appointed as Executive Assistants to the Governor, following feedback from his wife about the lack of opportunities for women in the state. He called for local party leaders to nominate candidates for these positions.
