A tragic building collapse occurred in Ilorin, Kwara State, where a mother and four of her children lost their lives. The incident happened on Tuesday morning at a three-story building on Popo Giwa Street. Eight family members were trapped under the rubble when a part of the building fell. Emergency services quickly responded to the scene after receiving a call around 5 a.m. They managed to rescue three people, including the father, who was saved because he was in the bathroom when the collapse happened. Sadly, the rescuers found the mother and her youngest child, aged about 5 to 7 years, dead under the debris. The building's collapse is believed to have happened in the boys' quarters, and the cause is still under investigation. Officials have evacuated the remaining occupants of the building for safety reasons and will assess the structure to determine if it is safe or needs to be demolished. Local authorities emphasized the importance of following building regulations and urged residents to report any signs of structural issues in buildings. Several emergency agencies were involved in the rescue operation, and the community is mourning the loss of the victims.
