The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has raised concerns that some civil society organizations, which are supposed to help vulnerable people, are actually involved in human trafficking. They are allegedly tricking young people from rural areas by pretending to offer them educational opportunities, especially in communities affected by conflicts between farmers and herders. Vincent Adekoye, a spokesperson for NAPTIP, explained that traffickers are now targeting young men as well as women and are using technology, like social media, to recruit victims. He urged Nigerians to be cautious and report any suspicious activities to NAPTIP. Recently, NAPTIP rescued several trafficked children and young boys who were lured with false job offers in countries like Thailand. Many of these victims were promised good jobs but ended up in dangerous situations. Adekoye emphasized the importance of community awareness and vigilance against these deceptive practices.
