A judge in Nigeria, Justice Inyang Ekwo, has ordered lawyers involved in a legal case against President Bola Tinubu to avoid discussing the matter in the media or on social media. This case, brought by former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar and the African Democratic Congress (ADC), is about allegations that Tinubu submitted a fake National Youth Service Scheme (NYSC) certificate to the electoral commission, which could disqualify him from running in the 2027 presidential election. During a court session, the judge emphasized that all discussions should happen in court, not publicly, and warned that any lawyer who talks about the case online could face serious consequences. The case is scheduled to be mentioned again on September 28. Atiku’s lawyer mentioned that they want to personally serve Tinubu with legal documents due to the seriousness of the allegations, while Tinubu’s lawyer argued that his presence in court was enough representation. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) also expressed readiness to respond to the case quickly. The plaintiffs claim that Tinubu's certificate has incorrect information, which they argue violates the law regarding candidate eligibility.
