The Josiah Olu Foundation has given out N20 million in scholarships to 200 university students from the Eleme area in Rivers State, Nigeria. Each student received N100,000 during a ceremony in Akpajo. Dr. Josiah Olu, the founder and a former local government representative, started this scholarship program to help bright students who struggle financially, based on his own experiences with education costs. This year, over 500 students applied, and the foundation plans to increase the number of scholarships to 300 next year and also support students in secondary schools. The foundation has helped many students over the years and is also planning to build a new Econometrics Laboratory at the University of Port Harcourt. Dr. Olu encouraged the scholarship recipients to focus on their studies and contribute positively to society. Other speakers at the event praised the foundation's efforts in education and called for more support from other philanthropists. The foundation also runs programs to help women in Eleme and provides support for students preparing for university entrance exams.
