The Nigerian Exchange Limited All-Share Index (NGX ASI) has increased by 56.93% so far this year, making it one of the top four stock markets in Africa as of August 31, 2026. The best-performing market is the Ghana Stock Exchange, which has risen by 71.90%, followed closely by the Zimbabwe Stock Exchange and the Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange. The gains in the Ghana Stock Exchange are largely due to strong profits from major banks and companies like MTN Ghana, which have attracted a lot of investor interest. This positive trend is supported by improving economic conditions in Ghana, encouraging more people to invest in stocks. In Nigeria, the strong performance of the NGX ASI is attributed to expected foreign investments and better corporate earnings, especially from banks, as the country prepares for elections in 2027. Although the index saw a slight drop of 0.44% in August, it still maintains significant gains for the year. Analysts believe that the market's upward trend could continue, especially as Nigeria is set to regain its Frontier Market status on September 21, which may attract more international investors. Moving forward, investors are expected to focus on companies with strong earnings and good valuations.
