Manchester City has agreed to pay £125 million to Chelsea for midfielder Enzo Fernandez, making it a record transfer fee in British football. Fernandez, who is 25 years old, joined Chelsea from Benfica in 2023 for £107 million. The new deal matches the previous record set by Liverpool for another player. The two clubs negotiated the transfer over the last day and have now come to an agreement. Fernandez will now have a medical examination before officially signing a long-term contract with Manchester City. There shouldn't be any issues with his personal terms. Fernandez has previously worked with Manchester City's manager, Enzo Maresca, when he was at Chelsea. Maresca is eager to have him on the team since they lost several midfielders this summer. Recently, Fernandez was not part of Chelsea's matches, as he reportedly asked to be left out of the squad. Chelsea had set a deadline for offers of £120 million or more to avoid uncertainty as the new season begins.
