Two Nigerian men, Adebola Festus Adekunle and Mudasiru Afeez Olawale, have been brought to the United States to face serious charges related to sextortion, which is a type of online sexual exploitation aimed at minors. Their actions allegedly led to the tragic deaths of teenagers in Mississippi and North Carolina. The U.S. Justice Department announced that these men were arrested in Nigeria in 2023 as part of a larger operation with the FBI targeting criminals who exploit children. Adekunle, 26, is facing charges that include the sexual exploitation of a minor that resulted in death, while Olawale, 24, has charges related to the exploitation of minors and distributing child pornography. Both men could face life in prison if convicted, with certain charges carrying a minimum sentence of 30 years. They were extradited to the U.S. on August 27, 2026, thanks to cooperation between U.S. and Nigerian authorities. The FBI and other law enforcement agencies are committed to pursuing those who harm vulnerable children.
