The Nigeria Golf Federation (NGF) is starting a new golf tournament called the Oba Saheed Elegushi Open Golf Championship. This event aims to improve competitive golf in Nigeria and provide more chances for local players. NGF President, Otunba Olusegun Runsewe, announced this plan during a meeting in Abuja with over 46 golf clubs and other stakeholders. The tournament is named after Oba Saheed Ademola Elegushi, who supports the initiative and encourages golfers to work together to grow the sport in Nigeria. Oba Elegushi emphasized the need for investment in local golf facilities instead of traveling abroad. He believes that Nigeria has the talent and resources to build world-class golf courses. He also mentioned that investing in golf could boost sports tourism and create jobs. Runsewe highlighted that the tournament would allow golfers to compete at a higher level and help the NGF develop golf in the country. He called on businesses to support the tournament and other golf initiatives. The summit also discussed important topics like youth development and improving Nigeria's competitiveness in golf.
