Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Zulum, has taken steps to improve healthcare in the region by opening a new 42-room apartment for patients' families at the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH). This facility will provide accommodation for relatives and visitors of patients, especially those who come from far away. During the opening, Zulum emphasized that this initiative is part of his plan to enhance healthcare services and ensure better treatment for patients and their families. He has previously contributed N100 million to help the hospital with necessary medical supplies and built homes for medical staff to help them stay close to the hospital. Additionally, Zulum has allocated N1 billion for kidney transplant and maternal health services at UMTH and provided further support after a flood disaster in 2024. His efforts also include improving other institutions in the area, such as universities and security agencies. The Chief Medical Director of UMTH, Prof. Ahmed Ahidjo, thanked Zulum for his ongoing support, noting that it has significantly improved the hospital's ability to serve patients and support medical staff. Overall, this new apartment is part of the governor's broader efforts to enhance healthcare access in Borno and the surrounding regions.
