A recent study by the Civil Society Scaling Up Nutrition in Nigeria (CS-SUNN) shows that there has been significant progress in improving the health of pregnant women and children in Nigeria. The study found that 92% of pregnant women in 21 states are willing to take Multiple Micronutrient Supplements (MMS), which are important for their health and the health of their babies. The report also highlighted that 90% of mothers are attending antenatal care (ANC), but only 23% are meeting the World Health Organization's recommendation of having at least eight ANC visits during pregnancy. Additionally, while the Nigerian government has a policy to provide MMS to all pregnant women during ANC visits, there have been issues with the availability of these supplements. The study was conducted with support from UNICEF and aimed to gather information on funding for nutrition programs and the impact of CS-SUNN's work. Officials are encouraging local governments to contribute more to nutrition funding to help improve these programs further. The goal is to ensure that by 2030, all pregnant women will have access to MMS.
