Seplat Energy, a Nigerian oil company, has announced ambitious plans to increase its oil production to 500,000 barrels per day and pay out $1 billion in dividends to its shareholders over the next four to five years. The company's CEO, Effiong Okon, shared these goals during a discussion at the Africa Oil Week in Ghana. Okon emphasized that Seplat's growth is built on careful financial management and resilience in Nigeria's challenging oil sector. He noted that the company has already returned $835 million in dividends to investors after initially borrowing $530 million. As of late August 2026, Seplat's market value was about $3.93 billion, showing significant growth over the past year. In addition to oil, Seplat is focusing on natural gas, with plans to enhance its gas infrastructure and promote Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) to reduce pollution from traditional cooking fuels in Nigerian homes. This strategy aims to make Seplat a leading player in West Africa's energy market, especially as international oil companies reduce their presence in Nigeria. The Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) also highlighted that the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA) has improved investment in Nigeria's oil and gas sector by providing clearer regulations, which has boosted confidence among investors. They noted that the PIA has helped reduce community conflicts and vandalism in oil-producing areas.
