The Kwara House of Assembly has declared the seats of two lawmakers, Saba Gideon and Olusola Odetundun, as vacant. This decision came after both lawmakers switched from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). The APC's State Chairman, Prince Sunday Fagbemi, wrote to the Speaker of the Assembly, asking for this action because he believes that the lawmakers should not have left the party since there was no division within the APC. He argued that according to the Nigerian Constitution, lawmakers can't change parties unless certain conditions are met. During the Assembly meeting, the Leader of the House, Mr. Abdulkadir Magaji, supported the request, stating that the Constitution clearly prohibits such defections. Other lawmakers also agreed with this view. As a result, the Speaker officially declared the two seats vacant based on the constitutional rule.
