Dr. Isa Yuguda, a leader in the APC Professionals Forum, has called on the Nigerian government to improve border security to tackle rising threats from terrorists and criminals. During a meeting in Abuja, he discussed how ongoing instability in nearby West African countries and weak borders are allowing armed groups to enter Nigeria and cause violence. He acknowledged that while the government, led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has increased funding and upgraded equipment for the military, external issues are still making it hard to maintain security within Nigeria. Dr. Yuguda pointed out that recent economic reforms, like removing the petrol subsidy, have provided more funds for defense, which are being used to enhance the military and security services. To further strengthen national security, he recommended that the government focus on improving border security, cooperating with neighboring countries on security matters, and gathering better intelligence to prevent cross-border threats, especially as the country approaches the 2027 elections.
