The Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria (FRC) has announced that companies will no longer need to submit their financial statements to multiple government agencies. Instead, a new national repository has been created where all audited financial statements can be stored and accessed. This change was revealed by the FRC's CEO, Rabiu Olowo, during the opening of their new headquarters in Lagos. Previously, companies had to send their financial reports to several places, including the Corporate Affairs Commission and the Accountant-General. Now, with the repository, all these submissions can be made in one place, simplifying the process for businesses. Olowo explained that this reform is part of broader efforts to improve governance, transparency, and stability in financial reporting in Nigeria. He also mentioned other improvements, such as better audit regulations and integration with the National Identification Number system. During the event, Vice President Kashim Shettima emphasized the importance of strong institutions for attracting investment, stating that businesses need confidence in the regulatory environment. The Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Dr. Jumoke Oduwole, added that having clear and predictable regulations is crucial for Nigeria's competitiveness in attracting investors. Overall, this initiative marks a significant step towards modernizing financial reporting in Nigeria and making it easier for companies to comply with regulations.
