The Nigerian Finance Ministry announced that the country's economy is growing steadily and is expected to reach a value of $1 trillion by 2030. In the second quarter of 2026, Nigeria's economy grew by 4.43% compared to the same time last year. This growth is stronger than in previous quarters, indicating that many different sectors are improving, not just a few. Key areas contributing to this growth include manufacturing, which increased by 3.24%, and agriculture, which grew by 4.39%. The services sector, which is the largest part of the economy, expanded by 4.60%. Additionally, the Nigerian currency, the naira, has become more stable and appreciated against the dollar, making the economy appear even larger when measured in U.S. dollars. The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has recognized Nigeria as one of the top contributors to global economic growth this year. The government is hopeful that if these positive trends continue, Nigeria could become Africa's largest economy by 2028, benefiting many Nigerians by improving their financial situation and reducing poverty. The government emphasizes the need for consistent policies and reforms to ensure that this growth is shared among all citizens.
