Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State has made a strong statement regarding local government chairpersons. He declared that any chairperson who does not help the All Progressives Congress (APC) win in the 2027 elections will be removed from their position. This announcement was made during the introduction of new chairpersons and vice-chairpersons for the 13 local government areas in the state. Nwifuru emphasized the importance of winning every area and warned that chairpersons who do not perform well would be replaced by councillors. He encouraged them to work hard to ensure a complete victory for the APC and to avoid conflicts with their vice-chairpersons. He described vice-chairpersons as support roles, suggesting they should be ready to help when needed. The governor also shared a personal story about his deputy, who used to be a council chairperson and is now successfully serving as deputy governor. He urged the new chairpersons to stay focused and not let negative gossip affect their work. In response, Timothy Nwachi, the chairman of Afikpo Local Government Area, thanked the governor and promised that they would work hard to meet the expectations set for them, aiming for a significant victory for the APC in the upcoming elections. Notably, some of the new chairpersons are related to prominent political figures in the state.
