In a recent interview, Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory in Nigeria, explained how he and his team helped President Bola Tinubu win the 2023 presidential election against Atiku Abubakar from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Peter Obi from the Labour Party. Wike revealed that their strategy focused on weakening Atiku's support by encouraging people in the South-East to back Obi instead. Wike mentioned that he believed Atiku was the main figure controlling the election outcome, so they aimed to disrupt his influence. He noted that Samuel Ortom, the former Governor of Benue State, played a key role in this plan due to his concerns about the Muslim-Muslim ticket that Atiku was a part of. Wike's actions were intended to block Atiku's chances by denying him support from the South-South region, which he believed could have changed the election results. Overall, Wike emphasized that the defeat of Atiku and Obi was due to internal decisions within the PDP rather than outside factors.
