At the Mongbwalu General Reference Hospital, Yangala focuses on ensuring that health workers and patients are protected from the virus. She emphasizes the importance of strict hygiene practices, including the proper use of protective equipment and handwashing. Her role involves training health staff, reorganizing hospital spaces to prevent the spread of Ebola, and ensuring that safe practices are followed. For example, she helped move the triage area to the entrance of the hospital, which allowed for better management of patients and reduced the risk of exposure. In just two months, she helped improve infection control standards in 13 health facilities and trained around 430 individuals, including healthcare workers and community health leaders. Despite facing challenges like supply shortages and staff fatigue, Yangala has seen positive changes. Health workers are becoming more accustomed to these safety practices, recognizing their importance in protecting themselves and their patients.
