Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory in Nigeria, has stated that being investigated by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) does not stop someone from participating in political activities, such as campaigning for votes. He made these comments during interviews where he addressed concerns about politicians who are under EFCC investigation being part of President Bola Tinubu's campaign team. Wike argued that if someone can run for office even after facing criminal charges, then it is unfair to exclude those who are only being investigated. He pointed out that even a person in prison can support a political candidate and campaign. He questioned why a person under investigation should be treated differently, especially when others with serious allegations have been involved in politics. His remarks came in response to the controversy over a specific individual's inclusion in Tinubu's campaign team for the upcoming 2027 elections.
